Pingdom Adds Two New Features: Asia Pacific Probe Servers and IPv6 Monitoring

Pingdom Adds Probe Servers In The Asia Pacific Region

Earlier this year, we added our most frequently requested feature – the ability to monitor websites using only North American probe servers or only European probe servers.  Now, we are excited to cross another highly requested feature off our to-do list – Add probe servers in the Asia Pacific region.  Done.

We presently have over 70 probe servers across the globe which now include seven probes in the Asia Pacific region, including:

  • Hong Kong (2)
  • Singapore (2)
  • Seoul (1)
  • Melbourne (1)
  • Sydney (1)

How to Setup An Uptime Check Using Asia Pacific Probe Servers

It’s easy to setup an Asia Pacific uptime check.  Log into My Pingdom and create a new uptime monitoring check.  Then, find the “Test From” setting and select Asia Pacific.  Complete the rest of the settings as you normally would to create the check.

The new Asia Pacific region is available today for customers on our Professional and Enterprise plans.

If you want to see the full list of probe servers, you can log into My Pingdom and go here.

Monitor Your IPv6 Enabled Websites With Pingdom

We are excited to announce that you can now monitor IPv6 enabled websites with Pingdom.  I’m sure you have read a lot about IPv6 since World IPv6 Day happened back in 2011.  Fast forward to 2015 and global IPv6 traffic has increased by enormous amounts…as expected.  Mat Ford with World IPv6 Launch publishes various IPv6 deployment data including deployment trends for many of the largest network operators.   Check out Verizon Wireless’ IPv6 deployment percentage over the past four years:

If your website or web app is already IPv6 enabled, now is a great time to setup IPv6 monitoring.

How to Setup Monitoring For A Website that is Available over IPv4 and IPv6

You will need to add two checks – one with IPv6 enabled and one without which will default to IPv4 since the routing, uptime, and response times can be very different using IPv4 vs. IPv6.

It’s easy to setup an IPv6 uptime check.  Log into My Pingdom and create a new uptime monitoring check.  Then, find the “Use IPv6” setting and check it.  Complete the rest of the settings as you normally would to create the check.

For list of IP addresses for IPv4 and IPv6 enabled probe servers, check out the following links:

You can find both new features when adding an uptime check within My.Pingdom:

We hope you like the new features. As always, don’t hesitate to let us know what you think.
