After yesterday’s Internet Discovery Day and WordCamp, we felt ready to really take on Internet Days today. Now on the way back to Pingdom HQ, we’d like to bring you some of the events and impressions from today.
The highlight of the day came right away this morning, when Professor Lawrence Lessig took to the stage. His speech, or performance if you like, focused on issues of copyright. Lessig made the point that the Internet makes possible what was previously impossible. We think that would be a great summary of the whole of Internet Days.
That it looked like Lessig was doing a little jig behind the podium was just a nice touch 🙂
Mikko Hypponen, Chief Research Office at F-Secure, gave the audience a wild ride through the current state of the world of computer and Internet security.
Anna-Karin Hatt, Sweden’s Minister for Information Technology and Energy, talked mainly about education, and how every child has the right to use modern IT in school.
What do you think of the rather psychedelic stage they had constructed?
Jillian C. York, Director for International Freedom of Expression at the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), talked about how the Internet is censored in some parts of the world.
This afternoon we spent some time among the exhibitors, looking primarily at a few hardware-oriented projects, including a 3D printer.
We must add that it’s very rewarding seeing such energy, interest, and creativity surrounding the Internet here in Sweden. We’ll see what tomorrow brings, but whatever it is, we’re sure there will be more excitement.
