Typical Day for Instagram

Yesterday marked five years since the inaugural Instagram photo was posted, and go figure, it was a dog. Co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger went on to launch Instagram the following October and it’s all history from there.

Since then, the photo sharing service has joined the ranks of popular social media giants such as Facebook and twitter.

Let’s take a look at what a typical day looks like for Instagram:

On average, Instagram sees 70 million posts a day. That’s an estimated 10.5 terabytes of data! If the Library of Congress’ print collection was measured in terabytes, it would only amount to 10 TB.

If you were to stack 70 million photos you would have a pile as high as 36 Empire State Buildings (52,821 ft or 16.1 km)

With 70 million 4×4 photos (instgram’s signature specs) you can more the cover the area of Disneyland and still have over 6 million pics left! That’s an area of 1.12 billion in2

In just under five days, Instagram will see enough photos to cover all of Central Park!
