System administrators may not make the world go round, but they are the ones who make the internet and everything around it work. That is no small feat, and they deserve all the respect they can get. Without them, you probably wouldn’t be online reading this blog right now. That’s the idea behind System Administrator Appreciation Day, now eight years running.
The website that started it all says it best:
Let’s face it, System Administrators get no respect 364 days a year. This is the day that all fellow System Administrators across the globe, will be showered with expensive sports cars and large piles of cash in appreciation of their diligent work. But seriously, we are asking for a nice token gift and some public acknowledgement. It’s the least you could do.
Wondering what you should give your hopefully not too under-appreciated system administrator? Apart from some kind words and a pat on the back, here are a few suggestions.
(Note that we graciously managed to avoid plugging ourselves in this entire post, even though it was very, very tempting considering the subject… 🙂 )
