By the title, you would be forgiven for thinking that this is yet another “discarded marketing ideas” post. But it isn’t.
The basic idea is this: When we get a new customer we will send them a miniature traffic light, around 10 cm (4 inches) high. This traffic light can be plugged into their LAN and as long as it is accessible from the Internet, it will show the status of your monitored sites (with green being the status quo, of course).
This is a bit of a gimmick. We admit that. But it’s a cool gimmick, and we think a lot of server admins would appreciate having this around, if nothing else as an extra notification method.
There still remains a lot to be done before this becomes a practical reality. We need to create a prototype, set up a production pipeline, etc. We will keep you posted on future progress of this in the Royal Pingdom blog (that is, the blog you are reading right now).
