Welcoming Jakob Eriksson – Pingdom’s latest backend developer

Jakob Eriksson - new backend dev at Pingdom

Today we’re announcing that another great developer has joined the Pingdom team. Jakob Eriksson can juggle code with the best of them, and he’ll put his skills to use on backend development. Now, let’s get to know Jakob a bit better.

His first experience with computers came from technology magazines that his father brought home. That’s when Jakob was around seven or eight years old, and from then he was hooked.

But he had to wait for another four years until he got his very own computer. As you read this, he’s setting up and configuring his new computer at Pingdom, one of the latest laptops with quad-core processor and 8 GB of RAM (plus external display). What a difference compared to all those years ago when his first computer (a Spectravideo 328) had an impressive 64 kB of RAM.

With the new computer, programming was a natural and necessary activity, because there was no software for it, so he started programming BASIC, mainly games. “The computer came with lots of programming books, the BASIC was easy to use, and there were almost no games for the computer, meant I started programming,” Jakob said.

That interest in computers led Jakob to study computer science at Mälardalen University. At the time, the dot-com boom was in full swing, so he got swept up in that, and started working at a web hosting company. Programming for the web wasn’t new for him, but what he appreciates is that it’s so immediate. “What’s so rewarding is that you can make a change, and it’s immediately available, even to the entire world,” Jakob said.

That attitude certainly fits in well at Pingdom, where we build systems that are used in all corners of the globe. As a backend developer, Jakob will initially familiarize himself with Pingdom’s systems, and then dig into further developing functionality.

Still room for more great people

Even as Jakob is setting up his laptop in the Pingdom office, we’re still looking for many more super geeky, talented and fun people in our team.

We’re not exaggerating when we say that Pingdom is the place where you will be challenged to perform at a very high level, as well as given the opportunity to work on products that affect real people all over the world.
In other words, if you’re looking for new challenges, consider if Pingdom might be the place for you!

Besides, you will have a choice of what crazy maxed out and packed computer you want to run – Linux, Mac, or Windows.

To find out more about the positions available, head over to our career site for all the details. It’s in Swedish as you might imagine.
