What stands out to me is that the Google Page Speed performance grade does not seem to reflect the other metrics. For example: while TMZ scores worst in almost all categories—and based on this should have poor (‘perceived’) performance—the difference in Google Page Speed score seems smallish: 93 (best) vs. 69 (TMZ).

This shows, I think, the fact that we should not place too much value on automated ‘technical’ scores but focus rather on results more closely linked to Real User Experience.

On that note: I miss the (more experience-focused) Google SpeedIndex scores?

A total number of packets sent statistic would also be interesting, since this would include the DNS/TCP/TLS overhead and also show whether some site get a higher number there due to congestion and resulting packet loss.

Lol, wordpress? Yeah, I imagine load times and such are quick with such a simple concept such as WordPress and themes.

Some spelling mistakes in some of the charts though: “makeusof” should be “makeuseof” and “tutplus” should be “tutsplus” to name a few.

Nevertheless a very interesting read.

We build almost exclusively with WordPress and nearly ALL our client sites whether in the US or the UK come in at under 1 second.

Given we did work hard on our servers to achieve this, but you would think the bigger more well known blogs would have this off to a fine art.

Pingdom is extremely useful for anyone looking to optimize their site.
