I think that if Apple get rid of their monopoly and a couple of competing, user driven, cross platform (why not?) stores opens this thing might actually be for the better.

So, Final Cut Pro isn’t “powerful” enough for them? Photoshop Elements? OS X itself? They’re all on the Mac App Store. (And Mac users have been shortening the term “applications” to “apps” for years before the original iPhone was announced, let alone before the App Store existed.)
