Some of this is due to their being a high-street shop selling Macs and no real equivalent for buying PCs. I think there are high than average numbers of iPhone users too. A lot of this comes down to a lack of knowledge from consumers where ‘iPhone’ has come to mean smart phone. Listening to people customers in shops they’ll talk to a sales representative and point at an HTC and ask, ‘is that an iPhone?’, ‘No?’, ‘can it run Apps’? Then they’ll move onto the the Lumia next door and ask the same questions. What they really want is to be able to run apps, surf the net, check emails etc. but they only think one phone can do that. However some of the local networks have reported good sales on Android sets.

What’s alarming about Guernsey desktop browser usage is the disproportionately large number of IE7 users. Financial services is the key industry and it seems the office IT departments are relucate to upgrade.

This makes Guernsey an interesting place to develop sites for. We’ve probably got better than average mobile handsets, but a real split on the desktop resulting in a bigger than average number of users on old browsers.

I don’t think anyone will miss Safari on Windows, if you had to have Webkit Chrome is a much better option and doesn’t suffer from the Apple style blurry text.
