Well, this may not yet have found it’s way into official government programs — but there are some development initiatives nowaday based on the premise that communication technology is actually a very important factor in overcoming poverty. If a farmer in an African village can check the current bidding price for his produce *before* engaging on the multi-day journey to the market, that’s a very substantial improvement of his situation!
