Pingdom is located in Västerås, Sweden, and the third Geek Meet in Västerås was held last night at Hypernode.
The idea behind Geek Meet is to be a platform where people in the web and Internet industries can get together to share knowledge and experience. For us, Geek Meet is a great opportunity to meet the community of other people working on similar things.
The room at Hypernode filled up rather quickly and a captivated audience listened to a couple of interesting presentations about scaling web applications and writing friendly JavaScript code.
You can catch the proceedings online (in Swedish, the action starts at around 1 hour 49 minutes).
Building a scalable web application
Sam Nurmi from Pingdom kicked off the event with a presentation about the company, how it has developed from the start in 2007, some experiences from building a modular and scalable system, and six philosophies that have guided the company’s activities.
How to write friendly JavaScript code
Fredrik Berglund from Kinapuff turned the Geek Meet into a live demo of how to write JavaScript code that plays nicely with other code when placed on third-party web pages. He used some of his work on Lnk Juice as a reference, talking the audience through an example of what to think about and what to do.
Next Geek Meet Västerås
We’re already looking forward to the next Geek Meet Västerås, which is scheduled to take place in February 2012. Where it will be and who will be presenting is not clear yet, but we’re sure even bigger and better than this one.
Finally, we’d like to say a big thanks to Erik Stridell for organizing the event, Hypernode for hosting it, and all the geeks that attended.
